Cappi and the Big Bang

Whenever there was some mischief going on at the art school when I was there, you could be certain that Michael Capernaros (Cappi) was involved.

On one occasion Cappi had filled a balloon with oxyacetylene gas and thought that it would be interesting to send it up the painting room chimney. Unfortunately, the chimney had not been swept for many a decade. Within seconds the balloon exploded and tons of soot gushed out covering everything and everyone. Students were seen staggering out of the painting room coughing and spluttering and looking a bit like the Black and White Minstrel show.

As coincidences would have it, John Cole was striding down the corridor towards the painting room just as the explosion occurred. Spinning round and heading back to his office at a accelerated speed he was seen throwing his hands up in despair and muttering “I don’t wanna know, I don’t wanna know.” Happy days!
